Summer Field Techs We are always on the lookout for people interested in helping with our larger field projects! Currently, we are pursuing various projects involving desert lizards in the southwestern USA. Opportunities are available for Clemson students, students from other universities, and temporary field technicians. Our summer field seasons usually involve camping in remote locations with a small team of students and field technicians for 2.5-3.5 months (typically late April to early August). Expect excellent company and scenery! Summer positions are compensated based on your interests, experience, and goals. If you are interested, please email Ben Camper at [email protected] and CC [email protected]. Include 'Interested in Summer Fieldwork' in the subject line. Next summer we plan to work in South Texas and New Mexico. It's never too soon to reach out! |
New Graduate Students We have a range of different projects in the lab, including some that are extremely field heavy and some that are almost purely theoretical. Currently, however, we are most interested in students who are excited about work in big field systems, particularly those involving lizards in the desert southwest. The deadline for applying to the Clemson Biological Sciences graduate school is December 1, 2023. If you are interested, please email [email protected]. In your email, include your CV and a brief description of your interests, as well as a summary of any potential projects you would like to pursue. New Undergraduate Students The Bewick Lab is always looking for talented undergraduate students who are interested in learning more about ecology and gaining hands-on training in fieldwork, lab work or modeling. Although many of our positions are unpaid, we recognize that 'volunteering' in a lab can prevent students from lower income backgrounds from gaining research experience. Thus, if you qualify for Federal Work Study, we are happy to work with you to set up a position where you will be paid for your time. If you do not qualify for Federal Work Study, there are several other options, including participating in a Creative Inquiry Project, conducting an Honors Thesis, or doing volunteer work on an ad hoc basis. Occasionally we also have paid positions through the Clemson UPIC program. However, these are usually reserved for students with particular experience or students who have worked with us through other mechanisms in the past. Please email [email protected] if you are interested in further information. |
