The Bewick Lab is broadly interested in ecology and evolution, particularly, but not exclusively at the scale of populations and communities. We are especially focused on fieldwork, but also use a combination of lab work and theory to study patterns in biological organization from microbes through to vertebrates. Most of our work involves desert lizards, Appalachian salamanders or insects. However, we are not partial to specific systems. Rather, we are excited about any project that lies at the interface between microscopic and macroscopic worlds. Much of our work focuses on understanding the interplay between host ecology and host-associated microbiomes. This is an area where recent advances in sequencing technology enable unprecedented field and lab studies with the potential to contribute to novel ecological theory.
